Precision Surfacing Engineering for High-Traffic Developments
Peter Harding & Co. was appointed to deliver a comprehensive surfacing solution for a large-scale development site, with a brief requiring a durable, high-spec finish capable of withstanding heavy vehicle loads while ensuring efficient drainage and a professional appearance throughout.

The Challenge
Traditional surfacing methods can cause significant programme delays due to weather sensitivities and logistical bottlenecks. This project demanded a high-capacity approach that could cover large areas quickly, enabling immediate access for follow-on trades and site users without compromising structural integrity.

Sub-Base Preparation & Foundation Grading
The durability of any road surface depends on the quality of its underlying layers. We used laser-guided equipment to compact and grade the sub-base to precise levels, ensuring optimal water runoff from the outset. A multi-layer foundation was then engineered to interlock and provide a stable, load-bearing platform for the asphalt layers above.

Rapid Asphalt Deployment & Compaction
Using a fleet of high-performance pavers and rollers, we achieved a superior finish across the full site area. Continuous paving pours minimised joints and reduced future failure points, while synchronised rolling patterns ensured maximum compaction in line with British Standards. The result was a completed blacktop surface ready for use within days, significantly ahead of a conventional programme.

Advanced Drainage & Surface Management
A comprehensive drainage strategy was integrated throughout the works to prevent standing water and maintain site safety. Strategic camber and cross-fall grading directed surface water efficiently toward gully systems, while robust kerbing and transition zones protected road edges from heavy vehicle over-run.

The Result
The project delivered a smooth, high-strength surfacing solution that enabled full site access ahead of programme.
